Report Suggests Number Of Ukrainians In Clare Could Be 2,000 Lower Than Estimated – Clare FM

The number of Ukrainian refugees in Clare could be almost 2,000 lower than previously estimated.
A new publication from the Central Statistics Office, which uses administrative data to indicate whether an individual is still in the country or not, puts the number of Ukrainians in the county at just over 3,200.
Going by PPSN allocation data, there were 5,052 Ukrainian refugees living in Clare on June 3rd of this year.
The Ennistymon local electoral area had the highest amount with 1,886 accounting for over 10% of its population, while with 448 making up just over 2% of its residents, the Killaloe LEA had the lowest.
For the first time however, the latest publication uses administrative data activity, such as getting paid for employment or having a welfare payment date, as an indicator to whether individuals are still present in the State.
Based on this data, there are in fact 3,201 Ukrainians in Clare which is over 1,800 below the figure derived from PPSN allocations alone.
This would make the number of Ukrainian arrivals in Ennistymon 1,094, meaning they would make up just over 6% of its population, while Killaloe’s figure would be as low as 306, accounting for little more than 1% of people living there.
Additionally, this new data suggests that Ennistymon doesn’t have the highest proportion of Ukrainians in the country, with Kenmare in County Kerry overtaking it at 7%.
