U.S. News and World Report announced its best national university ranking, and six Minnesota institutions made the list.
The top five universities in the country are Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Stanford University and Yale University.
Of the 436 universities included in the ranking, six Minnesota schools made the list.
The University of Minnesota – Twin Cities came in at 54, University of St. Thomas at 148, St. Catherine University at 214, Bethel University at 220, the College of St. Scholastica at 259 and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota at 296.
St. Cloud State University, St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict didn’t make the cut. However, the three institutions were ranked by Forbes in September 2024. In Forbes 2024 report, St. John’s University came in at 356, SCSU at 427 and CSB at 469.

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities was honored in part for its small class sizes. According to the report, 40% of Minnesota’s flagship university’s classes have fewer than 20 students.
U.S. News and World report states the freshman retention rate is 92%, which it said is an indicator of student satisfaction.
Popular majors at the Minneapolis-based university include biomedical sciences, business, engineering, communication, computer science, psychology and journalism.
In-state undergraduate tuition is $17,214 and the undergraduate student body is about 39,500 students, according to the report.
The school has a 77% acceptance rate, according to the report.
The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul was the second highest Minnesota school on the list.
Tuition is nearly $54,400 and the school boasts an undergraduate enrollment of 6,100 students, according to U.S. News and World Report. The university has an 82% acceptance rate.

The school also ranks 23rd in the country by U.S. News and World Report for best undergraduate engineering programs at schools where a doctorate isn’t offered.
The most popular majors at the University of St. Thomas are business, psychology, biomedical sciences and computer sciences, according to the report.
