“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert is weighing in on the controversy over the American Eagle jeans ad featuring actor Sydney Sweeney, including a bizarre social media post by Donald Trump Jr., son of President Donald Trump.
“I don’t want to alarm you,” Colbert warned his audience. “But the internet is mad about something.”
In the video, Sweeney speaks about how genes can determine hair and eye color and such as the camera pans across her denim-clad body.
“Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” the text and narrator add.
Some observers claim the ad promotes eugenics and Nazism.
“That might be a bit of an overreaction,” Colbert said.
But the strangest reaction of all may have come from the president’s son, who shared an AI-generated image of his father in Sweeney’s denim attire.
“That Hanse…. Um, Donald is so hot right now!!!” he wrote, a nod to a line from “Zoolander.”
“Let me get this straight, Don Jr.: You look at Sydney Sweeney, and your first thought is, ‘She’s hot like my dad?’” Colbert said in disbelief. “Reminds me of Shakespeare’s love sonnet, ‘Shall I compare thee to a 79-year-old fart machine?’”
