Hello everyone — Welcome back to Poets&Quants’ Must Reads, a quick, digestible recap of the top business school news, sponsored by CentreCourt, P&Q’s virtual admission events.
I’m your host, Kristy Bleizeffer, and I’ll be highlighting the most important P&Q stories you might have missed. So, let’s get to it.
A forthcoming change in the way U.S. News ranks business school programs will effectively ban schools that do not have full-time residential MBA programs. The U.S. News ranking change in methodology will impact business schools that have been featured in one or more of the 13 specialty rankings that cover different disciplines from accounting to supply chain/logistics management.
All told, at least 14 business schools, with some 47 individual rankings, will be negatively impacted. Find out which schools in this story, up now on our homepage.
Last week, a 28-year-old MBA student at the Carlson School of Management stepped out of his home in St. Paul on his way to classes when he was abruptly surrounded by a group of people in hooded sweatshirts. He was handcuffed, put into a car, and driven to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office. The student from Turkey was told his student visa was revoked, though ICE officials would not tell him why.
The student is now suing President Trump and other U.S. officials alleging that his student visa was unlawfully terminated and violated his due process rights by detaining him without charging him with an immigration violation.
He is just one of several international students in the U.S. who have been taken by ICE in recent weeks.
You can read more about the student’s lawsuit now, on our homepage.
Over on our sister site, Poets&Quants For Undergrads, we present our annual ranking of the Best Undergraduate Business Schools.
And, surprising no one, The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School has again claimed the top spot, making it the most dominant undergraduate program since we’ve been ranking them.
You can dig into all the data in this story, which is up now at Poets&Quants For Undergrads.
No matter where you are in your MBA journey, we bring several helpful stories for you this week.
