Boingo Wireless, a leading provider of wireless solutions for the U.S. military, has deployed next-generation fiber and Wi-Fi 7 networks at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Airmen can access Boingo Fiber in their dorms for a secure, high-speed connectivity experience.
Boingo’s cutting-edge Wi-Fi 7 deployment marks the launch of the first-ever commercial Wi-Fi 7 network on a U.S. military base. The converged infrastructure delivers dependable wired access and next-generation wireless performance, ushering in a new era of connectivity for America’s Armed Forces.
Located in southwestern Idaho, Mountain Home AFB is home to the 366th Fighter Wing, a premier combat-ready force that supports air superiority missions and global contingency operations. With thousands of active-duty personnel living and working on base, Mountain Home plays a critical role in the nation’s defense and requires modern infrastructure that meets operational demands.
Boingo’s deployment of fiber directly to Airmen dorms brings symmetrical gigabit internet to each living space. The service provides instant, hassle-free access with no equipment rentals, technician appointments or waiting. Airmen simply scan the Boingo Fiber QR code in their room and pair the network with a router. The fiber-backed service is optimized for video conferencing, virtual learning, gaming and streaming. Boingo’s fiber network is built with a secure zero-trust architecture, monitored 24/7, and meets Department of Defense security and data privacy requirements. Airmen who sign up for Boingo Fiber at Mountain Home AFB can use the same account to access Boingo Wi-Fi as they move to other Boingo-connected bases around the world.
Boingo’s Wi-Fi 7 network is available across designated lounges, which serve as comfortable communal spaces where Airmen can complete online coursework, access training materials, connect with family or stream entertainment. Wi-Fi 7 is more than a routine upgrade—it’s a significant leap forward in wireless technology, offering lightning-fast speeds, ultra-low latency and exceptional reliability. For a generation that grew up with devices in hand and expects instant access, that means a network designed for no buffering, no dropped connections and the ability to digitally multitask. With built-in enhanced security, Wi-Fi 7 also supports the operational integrity required on base.
Boingo worked in partnership with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) to complete network upgrades and deploy new infrastructure at Mountain Home AFB.
