NBC is dishing out a new cooking show. Will you be back for seconds… or did it leave a bad taste in your mouth? In a moment, we’ll want to hear what you thought of Monday’s premiere of Yes, Chef! — but first, a brief recap:
The high-stakes competition pits a dozen talented chefs against each other to win over the minds, hearts and palates of judges Martha Stewart and José Andrés. And these aren’t home cooks — they are well-established chefs with hot tempers and inflated egos that are sure to stand in the way as they battle it out for $250,000.

The first episode kicks off with a team challenge, and a few personalities quickly emerge: Katsuji, a team captain who refuses to collaborate and ultimately dishes out a cold fish; Petrina, who struggles — physically and emotionally — to kill and clean a lobster; and Zain, a self-proclaimed “bitch.”
In the end, the judges choose the winning team and name Michelle — who once cooked asparagus next to Julia Child! — the Most Valuable Chef. And then, Martha and José announce a twist: Michelle must go head-to-head with a losing team’s chef of her choosing in a cook-off. If she wins, the loser goes home. If Michelle’s opponent wins, they choose any chef from one of the losing teams to send home.
Michelle challenges Katsuji, and each must prepare a Greek dish using Mexican ingredients. (Confusing, but we’re moving on!) Katsuji plays dirty, grabbing more ingredients than he plans to use in order to sabotage his opponent. Ultimately, Michelle serves up a chalky fish and loses. Katsuji, in turn, sends Petrina packing, and proves he’s a total villain by claiming it was Michelle who made the final call. (Gasp!)
