Glover said that anyone who had already purchased tickets to the upcoming shows will receive a refund.
Musician, actor and “Atlanta” creator Donald Glover — who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino — announced Friday afternoon that he would be canceling the remainder of his North American and European tour as he awaits surgery in Houston for an undisclosed illness.
Glover announced via social media that he sought treatment following his Sept. 7 show in New Orleans.
“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he said. “It became clear I could not perform the rest of the U.S. tour in the time asked. As of now, I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”
He also said that the remainder of his tour had been canceled and fans would be refunded at the point of sale.
“My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously,” he said. “With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates. … I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy and support.”
At this time, Glover has not released further details regarding the nature of his illness.
