27th April 2025 – (Budapest) Donald Trump Jr. has urged Hungary and the surrounding region to prioritise economic partnerships with the United States rather than China, during a business forum in Budapest, as reported by the Portfolio news website.
Speaking at the event, part of his “Trump Business Vision 2025” roadshow, Trump Jr. stated that China represents a greater threat to the region than Russia. The closed-door meeting, held on Friday, was attended by Hungarian entrepreneurs and was organised by Portfolio.
As the eldest son of former President Donald Trump and an executive vice president of the Trump Organization, Trump Jr. praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s nationalist agenda and highlighted the strong relationship between the two leaders.
However, his message to distance from China may resonate uneasily in Hungary and other parts of Eastern Europe, which have increasingly welcomed investments from the Asian nation. Prime Minister Orban has successfully attracted significant Chinese investments, particularly in the battery and electric vehicle sectors, including a factory being built by BYD Co. in southern Hungary. Additionally, Hungary and Serbia are collaborating on a Budapest-Belgrade freight line, part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Following his visit to Budapest, Trump Jr. is scheduled to travel to Serbia on Saturday, Bulgaria on Sunday, and Romania on Monday, where he will continue to promote business opportunities in the region.
