Inbound and outbound trains on a busy Metra line Friday were stopped after a freight train derailment, Metra said, with extensive delays anticipated.
According a post from the Metra BNSF line, all train service on the line was halted near Route 59 in Naperville.

“Customers are advised to seek alternate transportation,” Metra said. “Extensive delays are anticipated.”
NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin described the halted trains as a “major commuter alert for people coming out of the western suburbs.”
“You may have to drive this morning,” Martin added.
Later Friday morning, Metra said BNSF trains from Chicago will have “limited service” to Route 59, wiht some trains running but delays continuing.
