Pakistan Army Chief Salary: Its an open secret that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, akin to his predecessors, is the de-facto ruling power in the country, and the civilian government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is little more than a puppet regime that is essentially subservient to the Army. But how much does General Asim Munir officially earn in monthly salary?
We’ll delve into this interesting topic later, but first let us find out about the key difference in the chain of command in the Pakistan Army and the Indian Army.
The Army Chief is highest authority officer in Pakistan Armed Forces, whereas in India, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), currently General Anil Chauhan, commands the tri-forces. while the Chief Army Staff (COAS), aka the Army Chief, heads the Indian Army. Currently, the post is occupied by General Upendra Dwivedi.
In contrast, the Pakistan Army Chief, currently General Asim Munir, is the de-facto leader of the Pakistan Armed Forces, whose tenure is three years, but can be extended for up to five years. Unlike his Indian counterpart, the Pakistan Army chief has major influence on the country’s politics, even its economic and foreign policies.
The Indian Army Chief is appointed by the Central government’s Cabinet Appointment Committee, and the retirement age is set at 62 years, or three years, whichever is earlier.
Now, let us find out how much salary is paid by the Pakistan government to its Army Chief. In terms of figures, the Army Chiefs of both India and Pakistan earn similar monthly salaries of Rs 250,000 and PKR 250,000, respectively. However, the Indian Rupee is a lot stronger than the Pakistani currency against the US dollar.
Thus, PKR 250,000 translates to just over Rs 75,000 in Indian Rupee, a meagre amount compared to the salaries of India’s armed forces.
But, the apart from salary, the Pakistan Army chief enjoys certain other perks that accompany the top post, including free membership in elite clubs, a lavish private bungalow, additional security, government-funded transport, etc.
Additionally, the Pakistan Army owns several businesses as a corporation, including dairy and transport firms, which adds to the income of Army Chief General Asim Munir and other top brass of the Pakistan Army.
