US President Donald Trump insists he will not facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return from El Salvador, despite the US Supreme Court directing him to after Washington acknowledged he was wrongly deported because of an administrative error.
Mr Abrego Garcia's lawyers say he has never been charged with, or convicted of any crime, and deny the Justice Department's accusation that he belongs to a criminal gang.
President Trump says Democratic US Senator Chris Van Hollen, who visited the Maryland resident in jail, is a fraud.
"That prisoner's record is unbelievably bad," Trump added.
"He's an illegal alien, M-S-13 gang member, and foreign terrorist."

Mr Van Hollen, who represents the state of Maryland, recounted the chronology of Mr Abrego Garcia's travel to El Salvador, saying he told him he was initially taken to Baltimore, then Texas, then put on a plane with "no idea where he was going".
Upon arriving, Mr Abrego Garcia said he was "traumatised" by being at El Salvador's high-security CECOT prison, but said that "nine days ago" he was moved to a different facility.
Mr Van Hollen said he made a request to the vice president of El Salvador to release Mr Abrego Garcia.

Ms Vasquez Sura expressed relief to learn he is alive after a Democratic US senator managed to meet with him in El Salvador.
"It was very overwhelming — the most important thing for me, my children, his mum, brothers was to see him alive, and we saw him alive," Ms Vasquez Sura told Good Morning America in an interview.
