Is there anything Donald Glover can’t do? The actor, singer, comedian, and writer can now add “designer” to his mutli-hyphanate thanks to his new collaboration with Moncler Genius. Inspired by his very own Southern California creative playground, Gilga Farms, the collection and campaign alike take notes from the surrounding environment. Some pieces are drenched in a bright orange that evokes the citrus groves encircling the farms. Other designs contain an updated version of the brand’s mascot—the Monduck—as a farmer on the iconic emblem. Additionally, each garment contains threads derived from the orange plant, ensuring a bit of Gilga Farms will follow the pieces wherever they go.
Moncler has long dominated the workwear aesthetic in fashion, bringing together durability and functionality with understated beauty and refinement. The brand is perhaps known for its winter pieces and cold weather-gear. Glover’s collaboration is an ode to the brand identity paired with exciting innovation. By bringing the brand’s signature workwear aesthetics to summerwear and incorporating a “field to street” style that highlights the functionality and versatility of the collection, Glover’s exclusive capsule fits seamlessly into the world of Moncler.
“Functionality is key—it’s something that connects the world of Gilga and Moncler, we both create for real-world usefulness,” Glover explained. “ The sleeping bag is one of the first products Moncler ever made, which inspired our sleeping bag jacket, but also led to a collection of summer fits grounded in real value.”
Glover’s love for Gilga Farms and Moncler is clear in every aspect of the collaboration, from the campaign images that feature Monduck’s comic-strip style illustrations to the citrus-toned palette incorporated throughout. The campaign’s accompanying video epitomizes the collaboration best, featuring Glover falling asleep in Gilga Farms and waking up in a Moncler mountainscape where the two environments seamlessly merge.
