Idit Ohel, mother of the hostage Alon Ohel, wrote a letter to government ministers, calling on them to act immediately to release her son, saying Alon’s condition is worsening in captivity.
“I am exhausted, tired and anxious,” Ohel wrote. “A few days ago, we received a medical opinion warning that without immediate medical treatment, Alon will completely lose his eyesight; it is only a matter of time.”
Ohel added, “We defeated Hamas, we brought about a strategic change in the Middle East.”
“Now is the time for the real picture of victory – when the hostages return home, walking on their feet, heads held high, full of spirit and pride that Israel did everything to save them,” she said. “End this nightmare, bring my son home before it is too late.”
A man was lightly wounded in southern Israel. near the border with Gaza, by a stray bullet fired from the direction of the Strip that hit a soldier’s vehicle.
Initial investigation indicates that this was an accidental shooting by Israeli forces in the Strip.
The head of the Sha’ar Negev Council, where the incident took place, said, “Fortunately, the incident ended with only minor injuries and minor property damage, but we view it very seriously.”
He added, “The state determines that there is no security impediment to returning to the border communities, but it is not here to understand the significance of its decisions.”
“We will not accept risking human lives in the council’s areas,” he said.
The High Court of Justice announced that it is allowing the government to summon Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara for a hearing before impeachment.
Deputy President of the Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg said that since a final decision has not yet been made, this is not an irreversible step. Solberg added that, as a general matter, the legal opinion of the Attorney General’s Office retains its normative status, and no change has occurred. However, Solberg noted that, in practice, “this court is not required to consider claims concerning a specific matter before a final decision has been made by the competent authority regarding that matter.”

Jon Polin, the father of slain Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “stop claiming that ‘his forceful application of combined military and diplomatic pressure'” led to the release of 205 of the 255 hostages held in Gaza. “Please do not take credit for ‘achieving the release’ of Hersh,” he said.
“This insensitive claim whitewashes the lives of the 20% of the 205 who were taken into Gaza alive, survived a period of torture, and were then killed in captivity, including my son Hersh,” Polin said.
Netanyahu could have negotiated a deal to release hostages in August 2024, he said, but the operation in Rafah continued even after an Israeli hostage was discovered near where his son and five other hostages were executed not long after. “Ironically, the deal that could have saved them was finally completed in January 2025 under pressure from President Trump,” he added.
