Johns Hopkins University has 37 graduate schools, academic programs, and specialties ranked among the top 10 in the nation, including eight with No. 1 rankings, according to the latest rankings of “Best Graduate Schools” published by U.S. News & World Report today.
Two schools at Hopkins—the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the School of Nursing—earned No. 1 rankings overall. JHU’s biomedical engineering graduate program, part of both the schools of Engineering and Medicine, also ranked No. 1, according to U.S. News & World Report.
“While this news comes to us at a time when our community is facing hardship and change, it is always an honor to be held in such high esteem by our outstanding public health peers. The recognition arriving at this moment serves as a reminder of the importance and value of what we do as a school and a field,” said Ellen J. MacKenzie, dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health. “As we manage change and challenges, we remain deeply committed to our mission. Educating future public health leaders has never been more important.”
U.S. News updates some of its graduate rankings each year and republishes the most recent rankings in other areas. This year’s updated rankings including Johns Hopkins are education, engineering, nursing, public affairs, public health, and social sciences/humanities. The School of Medicine announced in 2023 that it would no longer participate in U.S. News & World Report‘s Best Medical Schools annual rankings, owing to concerns with the publication’s methodology. As a result, JHU became unranked, based on its decision to abstain from the statistical survey.

The Bloomberg School retained its longtime No. 1 overall ranking among public health programs—it has held the top spot since 1994, the year the rankings began. The Bloomberg School also received the top ranking in all five public health specialty areas rated:
In addition, the Bloomberg School’s Master of Health Administration program was rated No. 3, up four spots from the previous ranking. The program has been consistently ranked in the top 10 since 2015.
The School of Nursing‘s DNP program ranked No. 1 for the fourth year in a row. Its master’s degree in Nursing Administration ranked No. 2, down from a tie at No. 1 last year. In specialty areas, the School of Nursing’s doctoral program rankings include:

Johns Hopkins is tied at No. 8, up from tied at No. 13 in the 2022 rankings, with the following specialty rankings:
Johns Hopkins ranked No. 14 in the Education category, down from tied at No. 8 last year. The school also ranked No. 26 in education policy.
Overall, Johns Hopkins programs in public affairs tied at No. 46, down from tied at No. 39 last year. Johns Hopkins held steady with last year’s rankings in public affairs subcategories, tied at No. 6 in Health Policy and Management (Public Affairs), No. 11 in International/Global Policy and Administration, and tied at No. 35 in Public Policy Analysis.
The university is tied at No. 3, up from No. 7 in the 2024 rankings.
Johns Hopkins is tied at No. 10, with the following specialty rankings:
Johns Hopkins’ program in economics is tied at No. 21, up from tied at No. 22 in the 2023 rankings.
The university is tied at No. 41.
Johns Hopkins is tied at No. 14 , with the following specialty ranking:
