Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. appears to be a big fan of the administration that recently arrested him and plans to deport him.
On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security announced it had detained Chavez Jr. due to suspected ties to the Sinaloa Cartel. Chavez Jr. is the son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, and fought influencer-turned-fighter Jake Paul in California just days earlier.
According to the statement, ICE informed the previous administration that Chavez Jr. was an “egregious public safety threat,” citing his marriage to a woman “who is connected to the Sinaloa Cartel through a prior relationship with the now-deceased son of the infamous cartel leader Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman.”
On June 27 — a day before the bout against Paul — DHS determined him to be removable from the country.
When news of his arrest hit social media, one X/Twitter user went to his Chavez Jr.’s Instagram page and noticed he followed multiple accounts associated with President Donald Trump and the Trump family.

At the time of writing, that was still the case. When accessing his followed accounts and searching, “Trump,” the following accounts appear:
While it appears as though Chavez Jr. is a supporter of the president, it’s unknown if the Chavez family will seek clemency from Trump. Since the start of his second term, Trump has handed out controversial pardons to a number of convicted criminals.
