MarinHealth Medical Center had the most “high performing” ratings among 13 other medical facilities in the North Bay, according to U.S. News Best Hospitals report, released July 29.
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2025-2026 Best Hospitals rankings, which includes more than a dozen in the North Bay.
In its 36th annual report, U.S. News ranked nearly 4,500 hospitals across the country in more than one-dozen adult specialties, and recognized hospitals by state and regions for their work in nearly two-dozen commonly performed procedures and conditions.
Hospitals were rated on performance measures that include preventable complications, level of nursing care, and risk-adjusted mortality rates, which compares actual deaths to expected deaths, according to U.S. News.
Of the thousands of hospitals recognized, 20 made U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Honor Roll, representing top hospitals nationally for excellence in multiple areas of care. Two hospitals in the Greater Bay Area were included: UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center and Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital.
U.S. News states its best hospitals rankings are intended to help consumers make informed decisions about their health care needs.
“For most Americans, health care decisions are made close to home,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News., said in the July 29 announcement.
In California, as expected, UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center and Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital were among 60 in the state designated as a best regional hospital.
UCSF Health has a partnership with MarinHealth Medical Center that began in September 2018. The affiliation includes UCSF specialists providing care at MarinHealth Medical Center and through various MarinHealth/UCSF Health clinics.
Additionally, in March 2018, UCSF Health and Sonoma Valley Hospital signed an agreement to create an integrated health care network. Sonoma Valley Hospital is a district hospital that provides general and acute care services to Sonoma Valley residents. It is not included in U.S. News’ best hospitals rankings.
In the North Bay, 13 hospitals earned high-performing ratings for certain procedures and conditions, but did not meet the threshold to be ranked a best regional hospital.
