Norway is prepared to offer substantial additional funding for Ukraine’s air defense, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated during a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Monday, July 21.
“Norway is ready to provide significant additional funding for Ukraine’s air defense. And now we plan to do this in very direct cooperation with Germany, a very reliable partner in this matter,” emphasized Støre during a live press conference.
He added that industries are already working closely together to produce air defense systems and missiles for Ukraine.
“We are also discussing how we can supply systems like the Patriot systems to Ukraine, which is extremely important,” the Prime Minister stressed.
“But for that, we also need more partners. So, we need the United States, and we count on the president, who has clearly indicated this, to quickly finalize an agreement to fulfill its role,” Støre said.
In February 2025, Norway announced an allocation of approximately $107 million to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. The funds are designated for procuring air defense systems from the United States through the JUMPSTART program. This initiative is part of Norway’s broader $2 billion military aid package for Ukraine in 2025 under the Nansen Program.
Previously, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had stated that Germany and the United States have reached an agreement to provide Ukraine with five Patriot air defense systems.
