Pope Leo XIV addresses Ukrainian pilgrims, calls for dialogue over violence – RBC-Ukraine

During Sunday prayer at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV addressed pilgrims with words about war and peace. He reminded the faithful of the suffering endured by those affected by armed conflict and urged world leaders to seek the path of dialogue, according to the Vatican News.
During the traditional Sunday Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV addressed Ukrainian pilgrims present among the faithful. He extended greetings to all in attendance, especially the Greek Catholic pilgrims.
“Let us ask the Lord to touch hearts and inspire the minds of leaders so they may replace the violence of weapons with the pursuit of dialogue,” the Pope said.
The Pontiff expressed his sorrow over the suffering caused by the war launched by Russia against Ukraine and called for the swift restoration of peace.
In his address, the Pope emphasized that peace is “the longing of all peoples and the desperate plea of those tormented by war.” He stressed the importance of dialogue as the primary path to ending conflict.
His words served as yet another sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and a reminder to the international community not to forget about the ongoing war that continues to claim lives every day.
Pope Leo XIV recently addressed Ukrainians in the Ukrainian language via a message on Twitter. In it, he offered his support to the people of Ukraine, particularly the families of those who have fallen.
Additionally, on Wednesday, July 2, the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church held an audience with Pope Leo XIV in the Consistory Hall of the Apostolic Palace. The Pontiff expressed his support for the Ukrainian nation, praised the strength of its faith and hope amid the war, and called for unity and prayer for peace.
