Russia-Ukraine War Updates August 2025: Zelensky, Putin, Trump Statements
As noted by Suspilne News
Today, August 2, marks the 1256th day of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Here are the main events that have occurred so far:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of a bill that will provide state protection for individuals who contracted illnesses while in captivity, on par with military personnel injured during service.
On the evening of August 1, Russian forces launched an attack on the Kyiv district of Kharkiv using a “Molniya” drone. The explosion occurred around 8:45 PM, injuring 11 people, including three children.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the threatening statements made by former Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev, noting that he had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to “appropriate regions.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the conditions he outlined in June 2024 for ending the war remain valid. He reiterated three main demands: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territories of the “DPR,” “LPR,” Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions; Ukraine’s commitment not to join NATO; and Ukraine adopting a neutral, non-aligned, and nuclear-free status.
In response to these statements, Zelensky noted that Ukraine is ready to move from exchanging statements to leader-level negotiations.
Donald Trump commented on his previous statements about deploying nuclear submarines, explaining that this was a reaction to the rhetoric of former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev. The statement was made during a press briefing before departing the White House on August 1, 2025.
“Yes. We had to do it. We just need to be careful. We were threatened, and we considered that unacceptable. So I am acting very cautiously – in the interest of the safety of our people. The threat was voiced by the former president of Russia, and we will do everything to protect our citizens.”
A conflict occurred in Vinnytsia between employees of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center and local residents. According to a correspondent, around 11:00 PM, Vinnytsia residents gathered near the stadium demanding the release of men who are presumably being held there.
