The Seattle Center hosted the city's 40th annual Naturalization Ceremony on July 4, where more than 500 candidates were sworn in as new citizens of the United States.
The Chief United States District Judge for the Western District Court of Washington administered the oath of citizenship, while Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell delivered welcome remarks and presented employee Alma Franulovi Plancich with a surprise award for her 40 years of dedication to the event, where she currently serves as project manager.

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell delivered the congratulatory address, while U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services District 41 Director Leanne Leigh introduced the new citizens, highlighting the countries represented and acknowledging the eldest and military service personnel among the candidates.
The ceremony also featured live renditions of the national anthem and "America the Beautiful," and concluded with the new citizens reciting the Pledge of Allegiance for the first time as U.S. citizens.
