Ukrainian Tennis Players Miss Wimbledon Fourth Round in 2025
As reported by the online media Suspilne.
For the first time in three years, Ukrainian female tennis players failed to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon. At this year’s Grand Slam, held on grass courts, the Ukrainian representatives were stopped at the round of 16.
Four Ukrainian tennis players earned the opportunity to compete at Wimbledon 2025: Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, and Yuliya Starodubtseva.
The first Ukrainian to end her run in the tournament was Marta Kostyuk, who lost in the first round to Slovenian Veronika Erjavec. Yuliya Starodubtseva was eliminated in the second round, falling to the “neutral” player Lyudmyla Samsonova.
Two Ukrainians remained at the third round stage: Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremska. Svitolina lost to Belgian Elise Mertens, while Yastremska was unable to overcome Spanish player Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. Thus, for the first time since 2022, Ukraine was left without representatives in the fourth round of Wimbledon.
The record for Ukrainian female tennis players is having two athletes in the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
2017: Elina Svitolina
2019: Elina Svitolina, Dayana Yastremska
2023: Elina Svitolina, Lesia Tsurenko
2024: Elina Svitolina
Elina Svitolina was the first Ukrainian tennis player to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2017, although she was defeated by Jelena Ostapenko that year. Her two semifinals in 2019 and 2023 remain the best results for Ukrainians at this grass-court major.
The last time Ukrainian female tennis players failed to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam was at the 2024 US Open. Since then, only Elina Svitolina has managed to reach the fourth round, playing in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open and Roland Garros.
