Ukrainian residents bought $280 million more foreign currency than they sold in June 2025, compared to $250 million in May and $970 million in June 2024.
According to National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) data, cash currency purchases rose by $11.6 million month-over-month to $1.796 billion, while sales dropped by $30.2 million to $1.474 billion.
Specifically, cash dollar purchases decreased by $56.5 million from May to $1.158 billion, while sales fell by $41.9 million to $1.115 billion.
In contrast, cash euro purchases (in U.S. dollar equivalent) jumped by $62.5 million to $577.2 million, while sales rose only slightly by $6.2 million to $301.2 million.
As for non-cash currency transactions, purchases by individuals dropped by $11.0 million to $307.5 million, while sales rose by $3.4 million to $347.3 million, resulting in a net surplus of $39.7 million on this segment.
For non-cash transactions by bank clients, both purchases and sales declined in June compared to May: purchases fell by $181.9 million to $8.371 billion, while sales dropped by $244.8 million to $6.350 billion.
Interbank transactions, on the other hand, grew by $221.8 million in June to $6.255 billion.
Compared to June 2024, bank clients' purchases of non-cash currency increased by $175.6 million, while sales declined by $411.2 million. Interbank operations grew by $614.0 million.
In the cash market, the hryvnia exchange rate remained relatively stable compared to May. The official rate weakened slightly by just 11 kopecks, to UAH 41.64/$1. In June, the cash and non-cash exchange rates were very close, and on some days, the cash dollar traded at a discount.
Meanwhile, due to a weakening U.S. dollar on global markets, the euro appreciated significantly in Ukraine during June, rising by UAH 1.98 to UAH 48.78/EUR1 based on the official rate.
Net foreign exchange interventions by the NBU in June rose slightly to $2.961 billion from $2.923 billion in May, though this remained below the $2.986 billion recorded in June 2024.
