It is with profound sadness that I read the news of Vice Admiral Yvette Davids’ early transfer from her command leadership position as the superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy to a senior staff role in the Pentagon (“Naval Academy will replace its first female superintendent,” July 17). Vice Admiral Davids is an exemplary, hands-on leader and has been a superb role model for the young men and women at USNA.
Unfortunately, the current civilian leaders of the military have once again demonstrated their petty insecurities with accomplished women and minority military leaders. All of the admirals and generals in the U.S. armed forces have risen through the ranks based on their superior character and performance as military leaders in increasingly demanding roles.
