Who is the richest person in the world? Richest man, woman both live in Texas: See list – Austin American-Statesman

The richest person in the world lives in Texas, along with several more of the wealthiest people in the U.S. and beyond.
In total, 30 Texans are among the world’s top 750 wealthiest individuals, according to Forbes’ 2025 World’s Billionaires List. The overall list, which includes more than 3,028 individuals and families, saw an increase of more than 200 individuals from last year.
Collectively, their net worth surged to $16.1 trillion, up $2 trillion from 2024. The U.S. now has a record 902 billionaires.
Here’s a quick look at Texans with the highest net worth.
Elon Musk holds the title of the world’s richest person . He has a net worth of $365.3 billion as of April 2025, according to the latest Forbes data.
Elon Musk claimed the top spot overall, making him the wealthiest Texan and American, surpassing Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. Rounding out the top five are Oracle’s Larry Ellison and Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), saw his net worth skyrocket to $311 billion — nearly doubling from last year, when he was the third wealthiest individual.
Last year, Texas billionaire and Walmart heiress Alice Walton reclaimed the title of the richest woman in the world. Walton, daughter of the late Walmart founder Sam Walton, returned to the top of Forbes’ “World’s Wealthiest Woman” list published Sept. 4.
At age 75, Walton has an estimated net worth of $100.6 billion. In 2023, she briefly lost the position to Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, 71, the heiress of the French cosmetics company L’Oréal. In 2023, Bettencourt Meyers was also a centibillionaire, meaning she had a net worth of at least $100 billion.
The two have vied to be the richest woman in the past, including in 2019, when Bettencourt Meyers briefly dethroned Walton that year until Walton surpassed her in 2020.
In 2023, Bettencourt Meyers once again surpassed Walton, who dropped to the third-place spot due to American socialite Julia Koch, who inherited Koch, Inc. ownership stakes from her late husband David Koch. Koch, 62, was estimated to be worth $74.2 billion in the latest Forbes ranking.
