The Qatari monarchy is giving President Donald Trump a super-luxury jet worth $400 million after sending roughly $1.8 billion to Hamas so far — maybe Qatar is hoping that Trump will add some sketchy friends to his list of Favorite Things.
Nearly 50 years after the late President Jimmy Carter put his beloved peanut farm in a blind trust to avoid potential conflicts of interest or ethical concerns during his time in the White House, the man who treats the seat of the Presidency like it’s his fourth home is running a much more generous executive branch, specifically when it comes to the generosity of foreign interests. It’s estimated that the Trump family has increased its net worth by nearly $3 billion since the President’s re-inauguration, thanks, in majority, to Middle-Eastern investors buying into his controversial cryptocurrencies, but the Qatari royal family has decided to skip the middle man and deliver our American monarch a “palace in the sky” in the form of an obscene, souped-up Boeing 747.
On tonight’s episode of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart mocked the open bribery of our country’s highest office, specifically objecting to the fact that, when (or if) Trump finally leaves the White House, he’ll get to keep the luxury mega-jet. After calling Trump “the reverse Oprah” due to the President’s fondness for gift-receiving, Stewart left the President with some daytime TV-worthy hygiene advice: “I would steam the shit out of those carpets.”
As Stewart pointed out, President Trump’s insistence that it’s rude to look a gift horse given by terrorist-funding, authoritarian slavers in the mouth is a slap in the face to the democratic trading partners he continues to attack economically and rhetorically, possibly because Canada hasn’t yet offered to build him a yacht the size of an aircraft carrier.
Time will reveal what exact favor the Qatari royal family purchased off of our President with an aerial experience that even Oprah’s astronaut friend Gayle King would find gaudy. However, if Trump’s business record has taught us anything, it’s that buyer’s remorse is common and non-refundable — and, when that happens, Qatar can put their Trump-certified I.O.U. next to all the diplomas from Trump University.
